All creatures great and small invited to Blessing of the Animals Oct. 8 Our parish will welcome pets on the lawn in front of the church after services next Sunday for a blessing by Father Duane. We’ll also have free treats and water for dogs, along with free cups of lemonade for their humans. Small, individually wrapped baked goods with prices marked will be offered for sale. If you can help at the pet blessing or make goodies for the bake sale, please see Annette Sisco, call (504) 432-9257 or email [email protected]. We hope you’re sitting down! After much searching, we have located a set of solid wood pews for sale at a church in Clear Lake, Iowa. They are the right size for Annunciation and have hymnal racks attached. We will offer our chairs for sale on the same website. Stay tuned for updates and how you can help us pay for them. Houses are open for visitors today There will be an open house today from 2-4 p.m. at the two houses around the corner, at Jena and South Derbigny streets. Little Free Pantry update After observing the ways our community uses our Little Free Pantry, we’ve decided to pace the addition of items to the pantry so there will always be a small selection of essentials available. Donations from the parish are welcome. Give them to Robin Yeager or to Kathy and Arthur Escalante so they can moderate the distribution. The pantry was generously donated by Gustavo Gutierrez and Janie Glade, a long-time friend of Annunciation, who will also maintain it. DONATION GUIDELINES: Food should be in easy-open containers that don’t require a can opener. We also need travel-sized toothpaste, toothbrushes, small packs of wet wipes and diapers, Ensure for infants and adults, and small packets of dry food such as cereal. Volunteer Opportunity: Thanksgiving at Annunciation Annunciation will host a Thanksgiving Day meal this year for up to 150 people in need. The dinner will be open to anyone in the community who would like to come. We will also provide meals to those who are homebound and unable to get out. The main course is being prepared and donated by the Audubon Institute’s Head Chef. We already have $2,000 in donations and are looking to raise another $1,000. We also need 20 volunteers the day of Thanksgiving to assist with serving, cleaning up, and preparation. As it gets closer, we will announce other ways to contribute. After the community meal is served, the day’s volunteers will be invited to sit down to a wonderful Thanksgiving Meal together in Vail Hall. Martha McKnight (504-228-1878 or [email protected]) and Robin Yeager (504-295-4800 or [email protected]) are on the organizing committee. Please contact Martha or Robin to sign up to help. Shades of Praise Christmas concert The Shades of Praise Christmas Concert will be held at the Nims Center at St. Charles and Napoleon avenues Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. Mark your calendars!
