Dear Annunciation,
Today, Robert Perry and I began The Great Pew Adventure of 2017! As you may have heard, Annunciation's Vestry recently made the decision to buy some gently used, solid-wood pews from a church in Clear Lake, Iowa to replace the chairs in the church. We are looking at the best way to add kneelers to the new pews, since we know kneeling is important to many folks at church. After Robert landed, he and I picked up a Penske Truck in Minneapolis and bought moving supplies from Northern Tools (like Harbor Freight.) After a stop for lunch, we drove down to Clear Lake. Tomorrow morning, we will pick up the pews and then begin the 16-hour drive down to New Orleans. I am very grateful Robert drove an RTA bus for 31 years. He's a pro behind the wheel of a 26-foot Penske Truck. My main job is to make sure he has coffee and good tunes playing - two things they actually taught me a seminary! Today was a Neil Diamond day. Tomorrow, I think we will move onto Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, and Ray Charles to celebrate loading the pews up. My wife, Mother Jane-Allison, will be with you tomorrow for the last Sunday in chairs. THE END OF ERA HAS COME. The Vestry voted to sell the chairs on the same sight we found the used pews: www.usedpews.org In peace, Fr. Duane+ Dear Annunciation,
A reminder that we will NOT have services at Annunciation this Sunday, October 22. We will instead join our sister parish, Mt. Olivet Episcopal Church, for a special service at 10am at Mt. Olivet, located at 530 Pelican Avenue in Algiers Point. Steve and Jessica will lead the music at the service. Afterwards, all are invited to stay for their annual Pasta Fest - the biggest fundraiser of the year for Mt. Olivet. This is also the weekend of the Algiers Point Home Tour. Believe it or not, you can cross the Mississippi River bridge these days without your passport! Mt. Olivet is a short 10-12 minutes drive from Annunciation. This is a great opportunity for Annunciation to deepen it's relationships with the good folks at Mt. Olivet. If you are unable to attend at Mt. Olivet, consider visiting one of our neighboring Episcopal churches. St. George's Episcopal Church, 4600 St. Charles Avenue, has services at 8am and 10:30am. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1031 S. Carrollton Avenue, has services at 10am and 6pm. Your pastor, Fr. Duane+ Parish work days Oct. 26 and 27 It’s time for our autumn spruce-up.
