Dear Annunciation,
A reminder that we will NOT have services at Annunciation this Sunday, October 22. We will instead join our sister parish, Mt. Olivet Episcopal Church, for a special service at 10am at Mt. Olivet, located at 530 Pelican Avenue in Algiers Point. Steve and Jessica will lead the music at the service. Afterwards, all are invited to stay for their annual Pasta Fest - the biggest fundraiser of the year for Mt. Olivet. This is also the weekend of the Algiers Point Home Tour. Believe it or not, you can cross the Mississippi River bridge these days without your passport! Mt. Olivet is a short 10-12 minutes drive from Annunciation. This is a great opportunity for Annunciation to deepen it's relationships with the good folks at Mt. Olivet. If you are unable to attend at Mt. Olivet, consider visiting one of our neighboring Episcopal churches. St. George's Episcopal Church, 4600 St. Charles Avenue, has services at 8am and 10:30am. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1031 S. Carrollton Avenue, has services at 10am and 6pm. Your pastor, Fr. Duane+ Parish work days Oct. 26 and 27 It’s time for our autumn spruce-up. There are several chores to be done both inside and outside the church, including: hanging a bulletin board in Vail Hall, cleaning a fan in the pantry, dusting the baseboards, and planting in the flowerbeds. Please plan to stop by on Friday or Saturday Oct. 26 or 27 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to lend a hand. Questions? See Ned Rannells after church or call him at (504) 258-2203. All Saints Memorials All Saints Day will be observed on Sunday, Nov. 5 this year at Annunciation. If you have a loved one you would like remembered in the service, please fill out the form below and drop it in the collection basket or give it to Father Duane. A suggested gift of $25 will help to support the work of the Altar Guild. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Thanksgiving at Annunciation Annunciation will host a Thanksgiving Day meal this year for up to 150 people in need. The dinner will be open to anyone in the community who would like to come. We will also provide meals to those who are homebound and unable to get out. The main course is being prepared by a local chef. We already have $5,000 in donations and are looking to raise another $500. We also need 20 volunteers the day of Thanksgiving to assist with serving, cleaning up, and preparation. As it gets closer, we will announce other ways to contribute. After the community meal is served, the day’s volunteers will be invited to sit down to a wonderful Thanksgiving Meal together in Vail Hall. Martha McKnight (504-228-1878 or [email protected]) and Robin Yeager (504-295-4800 or [email protected]) are on the organizing committee. Please contact Martha or Robin to sign up to help. Vestry meets Sunday, Oct. 22 Vestry will meet on Sunday, October 22 at 6pm at the church. Martha McKnight named church treasurer Martha McKnight has been named church treasurer. She was also named to fill the vacancy left on Vestry due to Keith Gardiner stepping down. The Vestry and Fr. Duane wish to thank Suzanne Fontan for serving as church treasurer over the last three years. Martha will continue to be assisted by Andrew Lapeyre. Vestry and Fr. Duane also wish to thank Keith Gardiner for his service on Vestry. Little Free Pantry update After observing the ways our community uses our Little Free Pantry, we’ve decided to pace the addition of items to the pantry so there will always be a small selection of essentials available. Donations from the parish are welcome. Give them to Robin Yeager or to Kathy and Arthur Escalante so they can moderate the distribution. The pantry was generously donated by Gustavo Gutierrez and Janie Glade, a long-time friend of Annunciation, who will also maintain it. DONATION GUIDELINES: Food should be in easy-open containers that don’t require a can opener. We also need travel-sized toothpaste, toothbrushes, small packs of wet wipes and diapers, Ensure for infants and adults, and small packets of dry food such as cereal.
