Annual Parish Meeting - TODAY! All members are strongly encouraged to attend the 2017 Annual Parish Meeting today from 12p-1:30p in Vail Hall. We will thank outgoing Vestry members Robin Yeager and Suzanne Fontan. Robert Perry and Todd Gonczy have been nominated for election to the Vestry along with Jerrie Hoffman for a second term. If you would like to be considered for Vestry or nominated at the Annual Parish Meeting, please contact Suzanne Fontan or Fr. Duane Wiggin-Nettles. The church is providing ham and turkey for the meal at the Annual Meeting.
No Tuesday Night THIS WEEK - Resumes February 7, 2017 at 6:00pm. Holy Communion followed by dinner and Adult Education. We will continue studying the Newcomer Ministry Project from the Diocese of Texas. The vision of the Newcomer Ministry Project is “Cultivating new practices of invitation, welcome, and connection that are rooted and grounded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ will gradually change our congregations and help shape an authentic culture of effective newcomer ministry.” The program is used by over 75 congregations in the Diocese of Texas of all sizes. I hope you attend as many sessions as possible. It is very important that we educate ourselves on new approaches to inviting, welcoming, and connecting newcomers to our parish. Godly Play Classes for children heading into Kindergarten through 6th grade meets in the classroom off the rear hallway, located behind the church. Nursery Help Needed. Colleen Nicholls, a junior at Tulane University, has been hired to work in the Nursery. Colleen was referred to us by Jessica Holl Kennedy. We still are looking for one more nursery worker. If you know of someone, please recommend them to Fr. Duane. The Nursery is in a classroom off Vail Parish Hall for babies through pre-Kindergarten (age 4.) Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study is at 10am. The Bible Study meets in the choir area at the back of the church. Using the African Bible Study method, the group will read and reflect on the readings for Sunday. Contact Suzanne Fontan for more details: 504-430-6879. Annual Parish Meeting will be held on January 29, 2017 after the 10:45am service. A review of 2016 and a look ahead at 2017 will be the focus the meeting as well the election of new members to the Vestry. All members and regular attenders are strongly encouraged to attend.

On Christmas Eve, we gathered to bless the creche and share in the worship of the birth of Christ Jesus. On Christmas Day, many of us, friends old and new, joined together in Vail Parish Hall for a luncheon.
HOW DO WE DEEPEN OUR COMMITMENT TO GOD? Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day. We’re approaching a time of year when we count our blessings, celebrate a great holy-day (holiday) of our Christian faith, and resolve to do better in the New Year. In the church year, the New Year begins on the first Sunday of Advent, which is November 27, 2016 this year, and several short weeks later January 1 as well. In many churches at this time of year, annual pledge drives are held asking members to recommit and increase their giving to the church. The Vestry and Fr. Duane felt called to expand Annunciation’s first pledge drive in over five years to something more. We are not a church about money but rather we are deeply concerned and committed to seeing one another grow in our faith. So as we approach this time of year when we recommit ourselves to our families, our faith, our future, we invite you to ask yourself: How will I recommit myself to God in 2017? What is my pledge to God? Here at Annunciation, we commit to God in several ways.
The first part is a self-evaluation. What are you currently committing of yourself to God? The second part are your goals. We strongly suggest you pick no more than two areas for improvement. Our faith journey is the journey of our lives. God isn’t looking for spiritual perfection. God simply asks for our best effort to live our lives according to Jesus Christ.
